Okay thank you.
Well all of those commands work. In fact, the output of /sbin/ifconfig is exactly the same, before and after bringing the interface up. I think it was already saying the interface...

Right so yesterday my internet worked fine.
Today - no connection at all. The light for my cable on the router doesn't even show up.
I originally had indicator-network installed, so when the...
Not sure if I've put this in the right forum, maybe it should be under development...
Anyway - earlier today, I used this guide to upgrade my compiz from 0.8.6 to 0.9.2. After a few hiccoughs, I...
YES! This eclipse-pde worked for me, though I also had to run it as root.
Thanks very much
This is excellent thanks, I couldn't get it to install either. I'm just install eclipse-pde now :)
To be honest I'm pretty disappointed with this too, and I've followed a long thread on how to fix this (which reallllly shouldn't be necessary in 2010 ¬.¬), which didn't work. Great.
I have a...
Yup :D
No problem at all...
hmm... mine can rip at almost 40x speed, which rips in about 2 minutes :)
naa it's worked since I got it. I have nVidia 8600 GT, with 1GB of DDR3 ram on it. I think that can handle compiz!
I've just tried the whole process again this morning, and still it won't work....
actual bump this time
because I would really really like my compiz back soon
as would most people on this thread :p
cheers
how do you stop kde using default gnome-apps and vice versa though? mine does it all the time, and I installed kubuntu-desktop...
ahh sorry I just bumped it then saw your message :p
er yeash I have tried that... it does install everything it needs, it's just when i reboot and it still falls back to low graphics mode after...
ok cheers, I thought it would probably be something like that, but didn't want to risk it seeing as neither of the above apps saw it...
I now only have 27-14 installed, but it's running fine atm....
update: got the kernel sorted out, but the graphics driver still won't work. So they're not related.
yeah I've already got that installed and it hasn't found it :/ not sure why cos it's always had them in there before.
??
gahh well the kernel bit is fine now... except that neither startup-manager nor update-grub will see the new kernel! So when I boot, it fails, so I have to edit the boot commands myself. Only as...
thank you A LOT, you're great :D everything seems to be fine now, just got to try out the graphics card :)
well that's weird... the files definitely there, I checked with ls linux-image* and several came up. But when I run your command, for some weird reason it complains...
mv: cannot move...
well for an however many years old necessity, and such an advanced branch of linux, I'm kinda surprised we still get major issues such as this. I know it's all constantly being worked on and changed...
ah ok thanks well that looks like it should work... except I don't have that file in my /var/lib/dpkg. I haven't got any images in there at all... is that right? Shall I try the commands you gave me,...
hehe bump again cos no one on the uk mailing list seems to know atm...
(not getting at anyone btw :p)
none of these programs work... in my case at least, it would appear to be a kernel-related issue. All the graphics interfaces are built from the kernel (I think), and none of my kernel images will...
yeah, I've tried 180 and 177, but now jockey works. I've also tried envy. Either way, they both break the graphics driver :S
why? I use it to move files around regularly
bump? is this working?
