I was on the 185 drivers, but the 190 drivers were what I needed:

1) Add this repository
https://launchpad.net/~nvidia-vdpau/+archive/ppa

2) install the 190 drivers with ...

sudo apt-get...

Have had a surprisingly successful time getting Ubuntu up and running on this machine apart from this one issue (See attached photo). I have tried Xinerama and TwinView.

I've got the same problem with a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 on a Macbook Pro 5,4... Been wanting to keep an eye on the core temps because there's supposed to be issues with the sensors in Karmic.

Also, just for anyone reading this. I installed Karmic 9.10 on a MacBook Pro 5,4 and just chose "Legacy OS" from the rEFIt menu and it boots fine.

I'm wondering if it's even worth running the...

So does that mean you need to have the liveCD in every time you want to boot into Linux?

The only part that doesn't make sense to me is installing grub to /dev/sda ... can't you install it to /dev/sda3 (as per the generic install instructions) if you still want to use rEFIt to select...

Looks good. Better than both the official ones I've seen for Dapper.

I'm assuming CP/M because we had an Apple sometime in the late 80s. We then moved through several DOS versions and even Windows 3.1... I also remember programming silly drawing things for the Turtle...

It's actually been working great, I've been getting 80-250MB a day and then taking them back home on my flash disk to dump and install.

OK, I did put them in the archive folder and that saved me from about 282 downloads, but of course there's about 20 new ones for today (such is life, I guess). An apt-update made the files available...

Instead of down mass update downloads for dapper at home, I've come to university and used a script generated by synaptic to wget all the updates from my university's local repositories. Very nice....

So I updated gdm from the breezy repositories today... it's now version 2.8.0.5
