installed Grub-PC, which allowed the boot menu to load the latest kernel 2.31, after that it read everything.

i got Karmic finally working, and wow its fast, i play my HD cam vids and theres very little stutter compared to Vista
try installing grub-pc,
was not able to install the latest kernel but after installing grub-pc, new kernel is working now, and also read my audio card.
i installed grub-pc since 2.6.31 was already installed, after booting up, my audio started working again, it also read my SB X-Fi card and it is now using the 2.6.31 kernel, thanks!!
