Wow, I didn't know that! Thanks!
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Best Android phone for Ubuntu tethering?

Sweet deal. I usually buy my phones unlocked and get a new stand alone AT&T SIM card. I have grandfathered unlimited data (I started out with Cingular in 2003) and if you use the wap.cingular...

[SOLVED] Re: windows defrag. before installing Natty

You don't need to defragment or disable virtual memory. UNIX style partitioners used to be unfriendly when resizing FAT32 and NTFS partitions, but here in 2011 the software is more than advanced...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Best Android phone for Ubuntu tethering?

Awesome, thanks. I'll have to check out the Samsung Galaxy, never tried that one before. I stopped to drool in the presence of the Nexus S at a Best Buy once, I would only need to force myself to...

[ubuntu] Re: can't use ./ to run csh scripts

In order to change the permissions you must be using Nautilus as root. Give this a shot, it a terminal:

    gksu nautilus

That should open up a new file browser window. BE CAREFUL, you're using...

  7. [ubuntu] Best Android phone for Ubuntu tethering?

Hi! I'm in the market for a new phone. I'd like to go with Android, and I'd like to get one that I know I can tether with Ubuntu. Anyone have any recommendations? Preferably I would be able to tether...
  8. [SOLVED] Re: Networking, Now you see me, now you don't

At the risk of moving off-topic, does your printer have network support, i.e. an Ethernet port right on it? If it can set itself up on the network, Ubuntu should be able to use it easily.

[ubuntu] Re: iPod not recognized. HELP.

It's always puzzled me. Since Mac OS X is POSIX compliant, it seems to me that porting iTunes to Linux would be a breeze compared to porting it to Windows. Apple has made some good contributions to...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: LYNX one sound card with ubuntu and Ardour?

    Try installing this first:

    sudo apt-get install build-essential

That should give you all the dependencies for building your own modules.

[SOLVED] Re: windows defrag. before installing Natty

The partition the installer uses is capable of intelligently rearranging blocks on the Windows partition such that no data will be lost, while it may be a good precautionary measure, it is not...

[ubuntu] Re: can't use ./ to run csh scripts

I have this problem with my external drives. I change the ownership of the drives from the default to my user. Just make yourself the owner of the /media/LaCie directory and you should be good to go.
  17. [SOLVED] Re: Networking, Now you see me, now you don't

The Samba (SMB/Windows sharing) server software doesn't come installed by default. Just right-click on a folder you'd like to share, choose "Sharing options," and check the "Share this folder" check...
  18. [ubuntu] Re: LYNX one sound card with ubuntu and Ardour?

You probably won't have to install a special driver for the sound card. Just hook it up and see if it's recognized. If it isn't we'll go from there.

[ubuntu] Re: iPod not recognized. HELP.

Do you have the brand-new iPod touch firmware? I can't get mine to work in Ubuntu 11.04 with the new firmware either. Apple invents new ways of keeping Linux from working with iPods, but usually a...
  24. [ubuntu] Re: Install--stuck on keyboard layout menu

  25. [ubuntu] Re: Is copying with command line faster than with nautilus?

As far as raw copy speed goes, there might be a slight overhead advantage for the command line, but it all comes down to how fast your disks can read/write and how fast your motherboard can move data...
