Re: Have you tried a new distro lately?

Jaunty - It gave me loads of problems, so I just swapped back to 8.10.

Debian - Already used it before, now my primary OS on the desktop.

Gentoo - Soon to give this a try on the desktop.

[ubuntu] Re: Need help with wget

Or after you've downloaded them to the /usr/hlds/cstrike/example.com/cstrike directory, you could always use a mv command to move them up one directory, and the delete the unused example.com...

[ubuntu] Re: Need help with wget

I'm playing with wget as we speak, it is something to do with the -r option to make it recursive. Do you need to go down multiple directories?

[ubuntu] Re: Need help with wget

To choose a directory to download something to from wget, use the -P option.

    wget -P /directory/you/want/to/save/to http://example.com/file

    Hope this helps a bit.

  7. [all variants] Will Editing the GRUB Menu Cause Problems?

Poll: Re: Anyone else love the CLI?

Depends on the task at hand. I generally turn off my computer at night, but one night I had to copy a load of files. Using just GUI, I would have had to copy all of the files, and then shutdown the...

Re: The kids of today. Need to plain grow up.

I am a high school student(Sophomore), and I do not do that sort of thing. However, I notice that a lot do. One girl in my French class said to our teacher something along the lines of "Shu' up!...
  12. Re: WTF? It was snowing 48 hours ago, now it's 85 F

Here in Oklahoma, my French teacher told us about a day she had years back where in the time span of about two to three hours, it dropped from 80F, to about 20F and began to snow.

    Re: breaking news (from January)

The update on the story is what is sad. Unfortunately, there are so many elitists out there that Ubuntu, or any Linux distro for that matter, is likely to not go very mainstream. I mean, as soon as...

Python is probably the best language to learn as a beginner. It is much easier than others. I know of a free ebook I used that helped me learn python pretty easily. I'll see if I can dig up the...

Re: what convinced you to try linux?

Re: Why do people put vi in tutorials?
