What did you change?
I'd actually virtualise the desktop environment
Or, I'd install gnome-core and VNC into the desktop
run it with -d to run it in the foreground in debug mode
Thanks josiahlund
Anyone know how you can detect this via logs instead of having to guess?
4 seconds is pretty unreal, my own laptop with a decent SSD hits the desktop in 15
If you're not using icecast then what streaming software are you using?
Hi
More information is required
What is the machine being used for? Where does it sit in the overall network (eg home network behind a router, datacentre etc)
This might be working as expected
How fast does windows boot?
Does it freeze at the same time? After the same period of uptime?
If you're using intel graphics, maybe try here:...
Hi,
What is the server used for? What environment is it in? Is it public facing? Does it send and receive data from other servers in the same network?
Build your own linux if it's that important
Plug the monitor into the onboard display port
Any difference?
Are you using software RAID
Did you make any recent changes to /etc/fstab
I actually upgraded to the 4.8.10 kernel and now it works great!
Kind Regards
Hi Everyone,
As the title states, I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 on my new HP Probook 450 G4 laptop.
In the boot settings, I have legacy mode enabled and secure boot disabled.
...
It depends on what you're using your machine for
I work for a major undisclosed IT firm that offers enterprise solutions to major Australian corporations
I'm pretty good at web facing servers,...
I think we need a sticky / how to on dual booting
I'd make it myself but Virtualbox doesn't like my newer kernel
I used to dual boot, a long time ago (when I was a kid and would play games)
Whenever I booted into Windows after a few weeks of using Ubuntu it would always be really slow for some reason
That's odd, I'm not sure about that
How did the scrub go?
It may have two case fans and plenty of room but it's the way the air circulates that matters
It would also be a problem with the PSU supplying dirty electricity
You can just delete the file if you want. If you want to restore (and people reading this will, so it's worth mentioning):
/etc/fstab:
UUID=cf914647-a613-4ced-b3d8-cda423c48ac5 /shared btrfs...
Can you please take a photo of the inside of the case, in a matter where we can see the position of the GPU and the position of the fans?
I hope you have backups if it's important data
Firstly, make sure you're using the latest kernel (4.8.7) and btrfs-progs
Try mounting it with the recovery options (degraded on RAID5/6) then run a...
/usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-intel/xorg.conf
If RAM is not an issue maybe reduce swappiness down to 5-10
Maybe uninstall and reinstall X
