That worked. Thanks very much.
His "cat" method gets me a "permission denied" message. My computer doesn't have a parallel printer port so unfortunately I'm stuck using the USB cable.
My printer had been working in 10.04 for a couple months. It still does work when I boot from a 9.04 live CD, so I know it really is "connected" hardware-wise. Any suggestions?
10.04 was fine yesterday.
After today's Update Manager,
1. Inserted CD does not appear on desktop, but does appear in "Computer" folder.
2. Brasero or CD Creator will not burn to blank CD....
My 10.04 installation was working fine (burning CD's, I mean) until I ran the Update Manager and accepted the updates today. Now I'm having issues with burning, ejecting, and even recognizing CDs.
Suddenly having trouble burning, ejecting, and even recognizing blank CD-ROMs.
No luck with Brasero here, either. I get
"Error while burning. An internal error occurred."
It doesn't seem to even read the source CD, let alone try to burn the target CD.
I just popped in my first audio cd after installing 10.04. The disk drive hums a bit as usual, but nothing appears on the desktop and no mount point appears in the "media" directory. Brasero disk...
The bash completion idea works like a charm -- thanks!
Hi,
Just got Lucid installed, and can't seem to use the standard diff command to compare files on hard drive with those on CDROM.
When I go into "media" directory I see the CD as "Data disc...
The iso file was ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso. This isn't the "alternate" one, is it?
Man, thanks for answering that -- I did NOT want to overwrite my present OS ... I simply wanted to try the live CD. I'm not sure what the error was, and I'm not sure whether I want to try this thing...
The iso file I downloaded passed the md5sum check. However, the cd I burned from it seems to bypass the usual Ubuntu menu where you get to choose what you want to do (run the live cd without changing...
Just installed 9.04 on a new machine. Files I delete just seem to disappear completely instead of going into Trash. This is not what happened on my older machine. Should I be worried?
Hello. Has anyone had any luck installing TeXlive onto a bootable 9.04 thumb drive? If so, how big was your thumb drive and did you have to use any special tricks?
Thanks for replying.
I'm interested in a stand-alone scanner.
Hi,
I was unable to get my Epson 3490 scanner to work under Hardy Heron (despite several noble attempts at help from these forums), so I'm interested in buying a new scanner that will work without...
Hi again kaibob,
The command
find /usr/share/sane/snapscan/esfw52.bin
spits back
/usr/share/sane/snapscan/esfw52.bin
Hi kaibob,
Still not working, but I must be getting closer.
I did what you said above. The first few lines of my snapscan.conf file now look like this:
#------------------------------...
Ok kaibob, I found the file esfw52.bin on my Window installation ... so I have that. What do I do next?
1. How do I edit the file /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf ?
I can open and "edit" it, but...
Wolfen69, I carried out your steps and I'm still getting the same error message. :(
Hi,
Responding to the last post, the command sane-find-scanner gives

Hi,
Has anybody had any luck getting an "Epson 3490 Photo" scanner working under Hardy Heron?
When I try to run the XSANE utility, I get an abrupt error message of the form
