I think that should do it but I haven't tried it out yet.

Do you have a UL30VT? I have an UL30A and the HDMI audio is shown under audio preferences, but I can't test it 'cause I don't have an hdmi cable to plug on my monitor

But I've read somewhere that HDMI audio works fine on UL30A if you select it in audio preferences...

    Here's what I did:
    1) Install "libvdpau1" from the package manager.
    2) Open a terminal and type "gstreamer-properties" and then under the video tab set the default output plugin to "X Window System (No xv)".
    3) Set SMPlayer's video output driver to "vdpau".

THANKS!! Didn't have to restart and now watching the same video that in totem/old way took 40-50% cpu only needs 9-10% with mplayer+vdpau. Great

I'll try the trackpad fix(es) in a bit. Thanks for the updates guys (2.6.34-5 is out by the way so i went straight to that, don't know if anything will be different with this kernel)

    I have a UL50VT, it is equal that UL30VT.
In kmix (KDE), I have Nvidia HDA and Intel HDA, but when I plug the HDMI to TV, it don't sound.

Try to add your user to audio group!

If you switch to Intel vga, does audio works?

I by accident touches the mouse pad while typing on the keypad, which changes focus or moves the typing cursor.

How do I change at what pressure level the mouse pad activates in ubuntu 10.4?

Is there any ways to do advanced setup of the mouse pad as I can under Windows?

Dumb question - how exactly did you install 2.6.34-5?

    First, add the repository:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:guido-iodice/guiodiclucid
    Then:
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.34-5 linux-headers-2.6.34-5-generic linux-image-2.6.34-5-generic
You can then go through and delete the old kernels.

Restart for changes to take effect.

Now, I have my own question. It seems after the last kernel upgrade my power usages has spiked. I have the brightness turned almost half way down and I'm using 15 watts of power. Does this new kernel undo the power saving scripts you posted Cierreics?

question related to ul30 and mic

    hello you ul30-owners.

i own one myself (ul30a). my mic is really bad. in fact, it's almost unusable to record any voice. there is a very bad noise all the time while recording.
It's also happening with Windows 7, so it could be that the mic is bad in gerneral - or it is broken.

is somebody experiencing the same problem or is my mic just broken?
