Logitech headset trouble

I got a USB headset from logitech.
Now if I plug it into my destop wich has a fresh install of Karmic I get both the sound in and the mic.
if I plug it into my Dell laptop (upgrade Karmic from Jaunty) I only get the headset no mic detection ?

Anyone know why the same device recognizes differently on both machines ?

I know that I have a logitech a-0374a and after the karmic upgrade I had todo a complete reinstall because for whatever reason several drivers did not transfer over

Damn I really don't want to do a reinstall on my laptop, I can't brake the VISTA install.
And I had a lot of trouble doing a clean install on my desktop but there I could afford to muck around till I got it right.
