Hi, just decided to go ahead and install Ubuntu 10.10 but not having much luck.
First of all it doesn't seem to recognise my monitor properly and sets the maximum resolution to 800x600. However if I select recovery mode and then boot normally it works at the correct resolution of 1280x800 automatically.
Secondly I've been trying to install the Nvidia drivers for the card in hope that will help (and for performance) however x.org says unable to load the nvidia driver and to look in the kernel log. The kernel log says the following:
Code:

However the card in my laptop is an 8600m GT which is listed as supported.
The display and graphics worked fine on 10.04 and also on Mint.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Toille
